Pele’s hair
Pele ball or Pele´s hair. The magma that comes up in Holuhraun does not all become a lave. The pictures below show a phenomen called Pele ball or Pele’s hair (the Icelandic term is Nornahár or witches hair). Pele’s hair is a volcanic glass threat that is formed when the molted material is thrown into the air and spun by the wind.
